A Word from Master Anju, on a Book That Took a Detour
As you may know, our main house, our true stronghold, is FAVORITE FISH: OURS AND YOURS— a book built around a single wish: to pass on the culture of eating fish.
And yet— along the road to building that stronghold, a detour emerged, one that could not be ignored.
There were mornings spent simply walking through Tsukiji Outer Market. The whiteness of ice. The height of rising steam. The lingering warmth of hands after preparation. Does fish carry the feeling of the season, or does the season itself bring the fish along? Moments like these— quiet, unassuming— made me stop in my tracks, and before I knew it, they had collected in my pocket. Those scattered observations grew, as if asking for a book of their own, and became a photo volume titled Tsukiji Outer Market — Scatter Sight Notes.
If the main book is one meant to speak, this is a book meant to be noticed while walking.
Promoting fish culture. Walking in step with the seasons, gathering the scenes that quietly revealed themselves along the way— a modest book, perhaps, but one that tells a certain and true backstory.
I hope you will turn these pages gently, as if tasting the subtle presence that flows between season, fish, and people.
Master Anju
